The Pictured Rocks are located in the Upper Peninsula (UP) in Munising, Michigan and are quite spectacular. It seems like everything in the UP is a little over the top and the Pictured Rocks are no exception. If you go there, you’ll probably want to take a boat tour.

For those of you familiar with Greenville’s recent past, you may be surprised at what I found when I got the grand tour from their City Manager, George Bosanic. I wondered if I’d find a place struggling to get by with the exodus of their largest employer, Electrolux.
Instead, it is very clear that Greenville is an up and coming community that is “making lemonade out of lemons.” They are well on their way to completing ambitious plans to make it an even more wonderful place to live with the best of history, modern urban planning and the type of lifestyle a city with three lakes and a river running through it affords.
The picture you see here was taken on a road that winds along the edge of Baldwin Lake. I took it near Baldwin Beach, which is being renovated. Here’s a Google map link to the approximate area I took this photo. I’ll be posting pictures all week of the special places I found here.
Want to guess where I went today? I took this inland right around the 45th parallel on private property. The next 2 weeks should be spectacular in Northern Michigan, the trees are just starting to turn along the coastline and are nearing peak colors inland. I took a ton of pictures so check back!
This huge propeller is located near the pier in Manistee’s Douglas Park, you can read more about the park and get a google map link to it at my entry from July 17. Just another reason why I love this place.
Michigan sunsets are a spectacular show of beauty. This sunset was later in the day, at the beach in Manistee after the storm from my previous two posts.
Here’s another photo of the storm that sprouted water spouts, as it roared on shore in Manistee.
Water spouts over Lake Michigan were seen nearby right about the same time I took this photo. We ran up a flight of 80 stairs into our friends’ beach house on a 100′ bluff overlooking the lake. The storm hit right after we got inside. This is the second time I’ve seen a storm like this in the Manistee beach area.
I just had to take a photo of this guy with his dog. They were having so much fun together. By the way, admission to Oval Beach in Saugatuck is only $5.00, unless you arrive after 5:00pm, then it’s free.
Even though it was on a holiday (July 3), Oval Beach in Saugatuck (click for Google map directions to Oval Beach in Saugatuck, MI) was relaxed and uncrowded. Plenty of time for building sandcastles and watching the sailboats breeze by.
Oval Beach has been deemed by many experts as one of the top beaches in the country. But try to find it, a better name would be hidden beach! Hey, how about this, I’ll help. Here’s a Google map link to an address near the end of the street the beach is on. So what’s so great about it? Check out my pics and I’ll tell you. Here’s the scene looking out to the right if you are facing the beach from the parking lot.
