Backroads in Ada, By Ann Teliczan

Even thought I HATE crawling out of bed early in the morning, once I’m up, I’m always glad I made the effort. The morning I took this photo is a perfect example of why. The only thing that would have made the picture better is if I had been the person running down the road and getting some exercise.

This is a typical Michigan fall morning, but I just happened to take it on the backroads in Ada, Michigan.

Monotropa uniflora, also known as the Ghost Plant, Indian Pipe is a rare find, but grows in Michigan woods.

Indian pipes are rare plants that grow in the woods of Michigan. Although they look like a fungus, they are actually flowers that lack chlorophyll. My friend Ruth, an avid gardener, called me today and said that in her 53 years she had never seen one of these plants and that one was growing in her garden. Of course I had to go there tonight and take this for ya’ll!

March Snow
It’s March 28 for crying out loud. Whatever happened to that saying “in like a lion, out like a lamb”? That’s what I was thinking last night when it started snowing, and then I woke up to this beautiful snowy morning. After I finished up my early meetings today I pulled to the side of the road on the way home and took this photo. This is why I live in Michigan, even though I am so thoroughly ready for it to warm up. I swear if I hear Chicago has a warm spell before we do, I’m getting in my car and driving there for a couple days.

Fall Day near Glen Arbor
I’ve been saving this for a day when I’m tired of winter pictures and ready for a warm day. I took the HDR photo on a trip up north last fall on a beautiful, warm sunny day in the Leelanau Peninsula. Can you feel the sunshine? Hope you all had a great, happy and fun Easter.

Winter Trees at sunset
I realize there are a lot of incredible places in this world. But, I must say I am constantly awed by how beautiful it is here in Michigan. I took this looking out a window as the sun was setting in Ada.

Snow Shadows
All winter long I’ve been waiting for the right moment to catch the sun shining through the trees, casting long winter shadows on the glittering snow. This weekend I finally got it, I think this is one of my favorite winter shots.

Winter Sky
It sure is pretty here when the sky is blue, the sun is shining and there’s a ton of snow on the ground.

Lake Harbor Park, Muskegon MI
I’ve been wanting to get some photos of Muskegon. So here you go! I was visiting Lake Harbor Park, and as I was walking towards the trails I heard this HUGE commotion past the bridge and decided to investigate. There was a big flock of birds making all the noise. So I scared them so they would fly off and I could get this shot, this is after most of them were airborne and out of the shot. I have some more photos of Muskegon that I’ll be posting over the next few days.

Big Snow
You know how the weather forcasters are always hyping the storms… so eventually no one takes them seriously? Well, um I guess they got it right this time. It’s still coming down hard here in Grand Rapids, but I took this a little while ago while it was still light out. Wonder what we’ll wake up to, I’m planning a trip to Muskegon tomorrow. Yikes!

Winter in Michigan
Brrrrrrr! It’s cold in Michigan but for those who love the snow and winter sports, it’s a great place to be right now. Winterfest is this weekend in Grand Haven, I’ve heard it’s fun with ice sculptures and winter focused events.
