Okay, this time it’s for real! This is the Little Point Sable Lighthouse. It’s located near Silver Lake in Mears, MI and is one of the oldest brick towers remaining on the Great Lakes.
Silver Lake is an over the top funhouse for anyone who loves an all-sports lake experience. Practically anywhere you look, you’ll see Jeeps, ATV’s and boats. It’s just an all around fun, exciting place to be, with something for everyone. This picture is a rather sedated look of the lake, but I like it because you can see the boats, water and dunes. This link will get you to Silver Lake, in the general area where I took this photo.
Here’s a link for dune rides, I’m pretty sure you can parasail at Silver Lake too but don’t have a link for that. If anyone knows one, I’ll add it to this post if you let me know in a comment.
This was taken along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, north of the campground in Manistee. Could you be stressed out while being surrounded by this? Not me!
This huge propeller is located near the pier in Manistee’s Douglas Park, you can read more about the park and get a google map link to it at my entry from July 17. Just another reason why I love this place.
Never been to Michigan? Here’s why visitors love us:
1. Sugar sand beaches everywhere.
2. A huge freshwater coastline that feels like an ocean.
3. Communities that welcome tourists.
4. Breathtaking nature and beauty throughout the state.
5. Lots of camping and places for outdoor activities.
6. A love for the arts, with great art galleries and unique finds.
7. Unbelieveable clouds, almost every day.
8. Comfortable weather in the summer, not too hot or cold.
9. Sunsets you’ll never forget.
10. Something for everyone.
I got this list idea from a great website, Problogger, if you have a blog, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
Here’s a great place to visit. The Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse is nestled in beautiful Douglas Park at the intersection of Cherry and First Streets. The park is county owned and has free admission. Visitors can enjoy the volleyball courts, boardwalks, picnic area with grills, sugar sand beaches, playgrounds and of course, beautiful sunsets.
Just before the big storm hit in Manistee, is was sunny on the beach and huge ominous clouds lurked ahead. See the Manistee link for what happened next.
Michigan sunsets are a spectacular show of beauty. This sunset was later in the day, at the beach in Manistee after the storm from my previous two posts.
Here’s another photo of the storm that sprouted water spouts, as it roared on shore in Manistee.
Water spouts over Lake Michigan were seen nearby right about the same time I took this photo. We ran up a flight of 80 stairs into our friends’ beach house on a 100′ bluff overlooking the lake. The storm hit right after we got inside. This is the second time I’ve seen a storm like this in the Manistee beach area.
I just had to take a photo of this guy with his dog. They were having so much fun together. By the way, admission to Oval Beach in Saugatuck is only $5.00, unless you arrive after 5:00pm, then it’s free.
