It’s March 28 for crying out loud. Whatever happened to that saying “in like a lion, out like a lamb”? That’s what I was thinking last night when it started snowing, and then I woke up to this beautiful snowy morning. After I finished up my early meetings today I pulled to the side of the road on the way home and took this photo. This is why I live in Michigan, even though I am so thoroughly ready for it to warm up. I swear if I hear Chicago has a warm spell before we do, I’m getting in my car and driving there for a couple days.
I’ve been saving this for a day when I’m tired of winter pictures and ready for a warm day. I took the HDR photo on a trip up north last fall on a beautiful, warm sunny day in the Leelanau Peninsula. Can you feel the sunshine? Hope you all had a great, happy and fun Easter.
It sure is pretty here when the sky is blue, the sun is shining and there’s a ton of snow on the ground.
Okay, Michigan truly is a sweet spot, but I’ve got to admit I’m a little weary of winter now. In fact, I’m boycotting it for a few days on my blog. So, in honor of the sunny, warm Michigan days ahead I’m posting this. I took it on my birthday in Whitehall. The air was fresh, the sky was blue, it was hot and I was happy.
If you live in Michigan, or have visited here, I’ll bet you’re longing for a day like this. Here’s something to think about to help keep you warm!
When I was taking pictures at Riverside Park there was a big flock of ducks. When they got sick of dealing with me trying to get the perfect shot, some of them climbed on these chunks of ice and floated downriver.
I took this along the shoreline on the far west end of Riverside Park in Grand Rapids. It was so bitterly cold that my fingers kind of stuck to my face when I touched it… you know, a teeny bit like when you lick a frozen metal pole… not that I ever did that!
Brrrrrrr! It’s cold in Michigan but for those who love the snow and winter sports, it’s a great place to be right now. Winterfest is this weekend in Grand Haven, I’ve heard it’s fun with ice sculptures and winter focused events.
I took this photo at an incredible farm on Grand River Drive in Ada. When I get my wide angle lens, I’ll be back and take some more pics that capture the overall scene.
On another subject, Michigan primaries are coming up January 15. The Republicans are here in force with Mitt Romney, John McCain and Mike Huckabee canvassing our state. It seems very weird to me to have the Democrats MIA in this whole process. I hope that won’t result in them being DOA this November in Michigan as a result. There’s a whole lot of us Michiganders who are pretty ticked at being considered irrelevant by the Democratic party during the primaries.
