Windmill Island Holland Michigan
Windmill Island just before dusk.

It’s Tulip Time in Holland, Michigan and Windmill Island is one of the featured attractions for good reason.

It’s a beautiful and leisurely paved walk to the island which is surrounded by marshes with cattails and red winged blackbirds.

Although tourists and vacationers travel from around the world to visit the island during Tulip Time, it’s an attraction that stands on its own and is well worth visiting any time of the year, especially spring, summer and fall.

Manistee gets a lot of "weather", just a wait a bit though, it will change.

This is the kind of cloud that gets your attention when it’s blasting toward the shoreline. You never know what you’ll see when you’re at the Manistee shoreline, which is where I took this shot.

Manistee Beauty, Just 2 Hours from Grand Rapids
Manistee Beauty, Just 2 Hours from Grand Rapids

I just got back from a weekend in Manistee and was amazed at both the beauty and how few people were there. Here’s a link to the area I took this off Lakeshore Beach Drive. The first time I saw Manistee was about three years ago and I was blown away by what a hidden treasure this place is. There’s still time to soak up some summertime beauty, sun and waves up north, why not head to Manistee? It’s only two hours from Grand Rapids, check it oouuuttt!

Driving along the backroads to Fremont
Driving along the backroads to Fremont

I’ve been pretty lazy with my blog this summer so I thought I’d better make this post a good one since it’s been so long. I took this on the way to my friend’s wedding party (Congratulations Amity & Lance!). It was so beautiful that day driving though the backroads on the way to Fremont.

Oval Beach In Saugatuck, MI
Oval Beach In Saugatuck, MI

Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer as far as most Michiganders are concerned. This is what we’ve been waiting for all winter long, the sugar sand beaches, beautiful cloudy skies, warm wind blowing off the water and clean air that feels and smells like it does when you live on a peninsula surrounded by fresh water. Today I feel like I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Honey Creek Road in The Winter
Honey Creek Road in The Winter

Wow! It looks like we’re going to have a winter to remember this year. Not great driving weather, but sure works for picture taking! I took this near Ada on the back roads.

The Mackinac Bridge
The Mackinac Bridge

Aside from being the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere, the Mackinac bridge is just plain cool! It measures 26,444 feet and is another example of the innovative thinking that goes on here in Michigan. I was there the day before the Annual Mackinac Bridge Walk. It happens every Labor Day and has been around since the bridge opened in 1957, these days the walk averages 50,000 – 65,000 people.

Northpoint, Michigan Just Before the Rain Came
Northport, Michigan Just Before the Rain Came

I just knew it was going to rain right around when I took this picture but just didn’t care because in upper Michigan it’s all good. Northpoint is another one of those spots where you’re immediately on vacation when you get there. I LOVE it!

Here we go! It’s Memorial Day weekend and the smart folks are heading north. I was up in Petoskey a couple of weeks ago and took this photo at the Perry Hotel, a local landmark. The place is loaded with history and first class all the way. I loved it.

Beautiful cloudy blue sky in Michigan by Ann Teliczan
After a long cold winter, it’s so great to see the sun and beautiful Michigan Sky. I took this photo driving through the mid-Michigan countryside. I will definitely be taking this route next time I go up north. Although I drove for 3 hours, it went by fast because the scenery was so stunningly gorgeous. Way nicer than the highway!
