John A. Collins Park at Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids is a perfect place to go on a lazy, warm day. Everyone was catching the rays, hoping this wouldn’t be the last weekend summer day we get in 07.
There’s just something about horse farms that amazes me. I love the fences and grass and magnificence of the horses. I see a lot of horse farms around here, this one always makes me stop and stare.

You know that path I told you about yesterday? Well this is what the parking lot dead ends into. I took this shot of the Thornapple River from the dock that the Forest Hills crew teams take off from.
Wowie Zowie! You know it’s just sooo easy to find a great place to go for a walk or bike ride in west Michigan. There are trails all over the place. I took this walking along the river near where the Forest Hills crew teams practice. The path is hard to find though so use this google map link, and look for a small green boathouse sign on the right and Don LeBlanc Row (the entrance road) on the left and follow the drive all the way to the end of the parking lot. The path is on the left and winds through beautiful woods, with the Thornapple River alongside it. What a way to get exercise! FYI if you’re one of those folks who don’t want to get their car dusty… the drive is a gravel road.
In addition to baseball diamonds, fishing, a playground, and a beautiful creek to play in, Warren Townsend Park has nature trails. This is a picture of the nature trail that is illustrated in this link. By the way, if you have dogs they are permitted on the trail as long as they are leashed.
Here’s another view of the same creek I told you about yesterday, with a little stone footbridge that children love to run across. If you look close, you’ll see a hint of a little boy braving to cross the bridge by himself.
This creek is located in Warren Townsend Park in Cannonsburg. When I happened upon the creek children were laughing and playing in the water. But by the time I got set up, they had moved on to run across the nearby bridge. A lot of couples get married here too.
I had a hard time deciding which Fallasburg Park photo to do first because I like them both so much. There were magical teeny little bubbles floating on the water when I took this. By the way, there is a tremendous arts show here in the fall, the Fallasburg Fall Festival that is sponsored by the Lowell Area Arts Council. This year the show will be held on September 29 and 30. This farm with horses was right next to the sunflower field pictures I took. The horses were watching me the whole time I was taking pictures, like they thought I was crazy.
I’ll tell you where, right into the beautiful Blandford Nature Center (please see previous post for google map link and more information.) The whole nature center is filled with lush, peaceful woods.
