I’ve been saving this for a day when I’m tired of winter pictures and ready for a warm day. I took the HDR photo on a trip up north last fall on a beautiful, warm sunny day in the Leelanau Peninsula. Can you feel the sunshine? Hope you all had a great, happy and fun Easter.
I saw this when I was up north on my color tour. It made me happy to see Michigan starting to make strides in alternative energy. The windmill is HUGE, look at it in comparison to the trees in the background, they are actually not very far away.
I know a lot of people who have moved to the Byron Center and Caledonia area. After driving around there, I can see why. If you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon drive, cruise out to 100th Street and drive through the farmland, this is one of the barns I saw while checking it out. By the way, if you have any great ideas for fall color tour pics, please make a comment and let me know. I want to get some pics from all over the state and appreciate your suggestions. (Thanks!)
On my birthday excursion up north, I got lost taking the back roads to Pentwater. But as luck would have it, this beautiful sunflower field was waiting for me. There were sunflowers as far as the eye could see. If you’d like to see this field, it is on Fruitvale Road near the William Road intersection in Montague, click for the Google map link.
For the last ten years, every time I’ve driven by this farm, I’ve said to myself, “Hmmmm, I think I’ll take a picture of that place, could it possibly be more perfect?” Problem is, it’s on Pettis, a rather busy road, and there is no shoulder to park on.
I finally decided to brave the elements and get the shot. I very quietly parked. Quietly, because my car was a little bit on someone’s lawn, and then ran across the street, took my pictures and ran back to my car. Unfortunately, my car locks on it’s own when I shut the door and I locked my keys in it. No problem, I just stuck my hand in the open window and unlocked the car, which of course set off the car alarm. And, I couldn’t turn it off. So, if anyone saw a woman driving down Pettis last night with her horn honking and lights flashing, “hi,” it was me.
This is a typical sight in the summer when you get a little inland throughout northern Michigan. I just had to take this picture of freshly baled hay.
Okay, I just have to tell you about the Leelanau Peninsula! It’s beautiful in a rustic way that is untouched by commercialization. The Leeland area is brimming with beautiful scenery and quaint out of the way shops and lodging. I will be adding more photos and posts about this area over the next few days. This image is by the side of the road when driving through the loop on M-22.
