I had intended to post this sooner, but was delayed due to my business trip to Chicago yesterday. Yep, yesterday when I encountered tornadoes and straight line winds, it was very interesting driving. That was one mighty looking storm that packed a powerful punch. I grew up over there and never saw anything like this before.
Anyhoo, this is another view from that pretty little spot along the river in Lowell.

As if you couldn’t tell by the photos, I really love the Frederik Meijer Gardens. I took this photo behind the amphitheater. The amphitheater is the best open air venue I’ve ever been to, it hosts summer concerts that are probably one of the best kept secrets in west Michigan.
Okay, this time it’s for real! This is the Little Point Sable Lighthouse. It’s located near Silver Lake in Mears, MI and is one of the oldest brick towers remaining on the Great Lakes.
This sculpture of children playing graces the entry to the children’s park at the Frederik Meijer Gardens. There is a fountain in the center of it that children can run and play in.
Have you been to the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park? If you live within an hour’s driving distance and haven’t stopped by, you’re punishing yourself!!! This place is a gift of love from Fred and Lena Meijer and what a gift it is. The pictured sculpture is one of many that you’ll find there. I’ve got several photos of this place that I’ll be sharing over the next few weeks.
I’ve always found the drive from Grand Rapids to Lansing incredibly boring… that is until I found this back road route and now I LOVE it! Almost the entire trip is dotted with beautiful farmland, small towns and old structures like this one. Even the clouds were pretty this day, we needed the rain bad.
I like the drive down Price Road. The road changes names several times, but you can see from this link where to go if you want to take the back roads all the way to Lansing.
I’ve never seen any place like this and couldn’t decide which pic to run because I liked them both so much. So, you guessed it, you get two pictures in one night. For more info, and a link to where I took this, please check my entry just before this one.
I have to admit that when I heard downtown East Grand Rapids was going to be renovated, I was horrified! But, whoever came up with this idea is a genius. The changes make this upscale, quaint little town on the edge of Reeds Lake even better. And, I love the way it has something special for the kids.
Pretty much everyone who takes a shot of downtown Grand Rapids has to take this one, me included! Hey, it looks like someone got a ticket. For those of you familiar with Grand Rapids, where’s your sweet spot? I’m looking for places that are beautiful and off the beaten path.
