I took this along the shoreline on the far west end of Riverside Park in Grand Rapids. It was so bitterly cold that my fingers kind of stuck to my face when I touched it… you know, a teeny bit like when you lick a frozen metal pole… not that I ever did that!
Brrrrrrr! It’s cold in Michigan but for those who love the snow and winter sports, it’s a great place to be right now. Winterfest is this weekend in Grand Haven, I’ve heard it’s fun with ice sculptures and winter focused events.
I love, Love, LOVE the clouds in Michigan. So much so that I have to watch it when I’m driving on a beautiful day because I literally catch myself looking at the clouds instead of the road. This is a photo I took on one of those days. Luckily I had my camera with me. It had been raining and just before the sun set, it came from behind a cloud and lit up the sky. This is one of the reasons I live here. The simple things.
I took this photo at an incredible farm on Grand River Drive in Ada. When I get my wide angle lens, I’ll be back and take some more pics that capture the overall scene.
On another subject, Michigan primaries are coming up January 15. The Republicans are here in force with Mitt Romney, John McCain and Mike Huckabee canvassing our state. It seems very weird to me to have the Democrats MIA in this whole process. I hope that won’t result in them being DOA this November in Michigan as a result. There’s a whole lot of us Michiganders who are pretty ticked at being considered irrelevant by the Democratic party during the primaries.
Living in Michigan surrounded by all the nature makes me feel free. I especially love the pine woods in the winter, so does my dog! On this day, you could smell the pines and feel the energy of the woods.
Get out and enjoy the snow before it all melts, go sledding! Here’s the other side of the hill at Richmond Hills Park in Grand Rapids, MI. And, a couple more great sledding places in Grand Rapids, with google map links so you can get there quicker: The hill at Union High School; and Lookout Hill at Belknap Park. Where do you like to go sledding? My readers would love to hear your comments, the last sledding post was incredibly popular, seems like a lot of people are looking for this.
Happy New Year! When I woke up to a fresh blanket of snow, I knew what I had to do today. I blasted off to my favorite sledding spots to take some pictures. This is a picture of kids lining up on the hill at Richmond Hills Park on Grand Rapids’ northwest side, it’s great place to go sledding with a long, sloping hill, beautiful woods and a pond at the bottom of the hill. Here’s a google map link to the park.
I was looking for the “perfect” winter scene today and saw this old barn. It’s near Warren Townsend Park in Belmont. I love the simplicity and serenity of the farm.
If you love barn shots, check out some other favorites that I’ve taken here.
I hope you all have a most excellent holiday season! I’m eagerly anticipating taking lots of pictures for my blog over the next week during time off from my job, hopefully the weather will cooperate. I took ths photo earlier in downtown Grand Rapids.
I also wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has visited MichiganSweetSpot, especially those who have shared it with their friends and made comments. I truly appreciate your interest and read every single comment.
I took this the other day in downtown Grand Rapids as the sun was starting to set. Everything took on this surreal orangy, pinky glow.
