I was standing above the fish ladder when I took this.

Today I was just itching to take a picture but couldn’t think of anything and then presto bammo, I thought of getting a shot at the fish ladder. This photo was taken at Fish Ladder Park in Grand Rapids. If I showed you the photos I took facing the other direction, you’d see several fisherman standing out in the freezing cold water fishing… what the heck??? In my book, you’d REALLY have to love fishing to be out in that cold water. Hope they were catching something. The fish ladder is in downtown Grand Rapids, along the Grand River, near the 6th Street Bridge.

The day I took this, the wind was whipping, the roads were packed snow ice and the clouds were ominous. But then the sun came out for a brief moment and then was gone. Luckily, I had my camera.

Honey Creek Road in The Winter
Honey Creek Road in The Winter

Wow! It looks like we’re going to have a winter to remember this year. Not great driving weather, but sure works for picture taking! I took this near Ada on the back roads.

Feliz Navidad From Michigan
Feliz Navidad From Michigan

This is what can happen in Michigan, when you get snowed in. Okay, so this isn’t exactly a Michigan Sweet Spot, but we do have chihuahua’s here and I couldn’t resist putting this photo up. I hope you and yours are having a wonderful holiday season. Thank you all for making this blog  successful.

I can’t decide if I like the Frederik Meijer Gardens more at Christmas or in the summer. What I can say is that it’s a beautiful place to visit any time of day, and any time of year. If you’re still looking for that perfect Christmas present, they have a gift shop with reasonably priced gifts that are unique and special.

Apple Orchard in Spring
Typically when I think of taking a picture of fruit trees, I think green leaves and fragrant blossoms or fruit. But not today. The shapes of the trees lined in formation against the blue sky and blazing sun caught my camera’s eye.

Snow In Michigan
I took this during the heart of one of our winter storms this year. My intention was to drive around and take lots of pretty snow pictures but quickly got over that idea when I realized I’d be stuck in a ditch in no time.

National City BuildingWhat a beautiful winter night. I took this near the Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids of the National City Building.

Ice Shelves
I’ve had a few requests for a picture of the ice shelves that line the rivers around this time of the year. I took this shot in Ada by the Grand River in a swampy area. There’s a whole field of these things over here, check out my google map link, turn down Shady Drive and the Ice Shelves are on the left (at least until they melt which will hopefully be soon!)

Winter Lakeshore
I took this in Muskegon at the Pere Marquette Park. Even though it felt desolate here, it was beautiful in an awe inspiring way.
