The sails come down after a day on the water

There’s boat harbors everywhere in Michigan that look just like this as the sun sets. I took this photo in Muskegon after a relaxing day of sailing. Being able to escape like this makes every day feel like a vacation. Post & HDR photo by Ann Teliczan

  1. THAT CERTAINLY IS A WONDERFUL SHOT OF THE SAIL BOATS, EXCEPT THAT I BELIEVE IT WAS SHOT DURING GTHE MID DAY HOURS. I LIVED IN MICHIGAN UNTIL I WAS 18 YRS OLD AND I NEVER SEEN THE WATER RIPPLE LIKE THAT DURING THE LATE EVENING. I THINK THAT YOU ARE USING A ADAPTER OVER YOUR LENS AND PUTTING IN A PARTIALY SHADED FILTER OVER THE LENS. I LOOKS GREAT, BUT IT WAS TOOK IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON MADE TO LOOK LIKE A EVENING SHOT. AND I BELIEVE YOU USED THE BLUE GRADUATING FILTER ON THE SHOT THE FLAG, WHICH IS ALSO A GREAT RESULT, TO ENHANCE THE BLUE SKY. THE WHITE ARORA OUTLINEING THE FLAG KIND OF GIVES IT AWAY. MY COUSIN HAS SENT ME MANY OF YOUR MICHIGAN PICS AND I LOVE EVERY ONE OF THEM. I WISH I COULD BY HALF AS GOOD A PHOTOGRAPHER AS YOU ARE…GOD BLESS AND KEEP TAKING PICTURES. I SIT FOR HOURS HERE IN FLORIDA LOOKING AT WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN IN MICHIGAN AND WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE WITH YOU ON YOUR TRIPS, IT WAY TO HOT, WAY TO LONG DOWN HERE. IF IT WASNT FOR MY CHILDERN AND GRANDCHILDREN I WOULD MOVE BACK IMMEDIATLY. ..TAKE CARE!

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for the kind comments. Actually though, I didn’t use any filters, but processed this shot with Photomatix. I was taken just as the sun was setting to the left, which is the bright glow behind the trees.

  2. PLEASE EXCUSE THE MISSPELLED WORDS IN THE PREVIOUS EMAIL. I DIDNT PROOF READ IT B4 I HIT SEND. MOST OF THEM ARE DUE TO POOR TYPING. IM NOT QUIT AS STUPID AS THAT EMAIL MADE ME LOOK. HA!
THANK GOD FOR THE GIFT OF SIGHT. I COULD NOT EVEN BEGAN TO DESCRIBE THE WONDERFUL SCENES YOU CAPTURE TO ANYONE THAT CANNOT SEE.

  3. Hi, Ann,
I know this spot well–up until this summer, we would be moored to one of the moorings in that very location! One of our friends lives in one of the homes along the shore and this is a familiar and soothing view. We decided to get a slip this year–must be getting soft. Give me a call so we can do lunch.

  4. Hi Ann,

i was on my FB page and saw you on Shawn Devries’ comments and took the link here. Just a simple note about this title – the “sails” come down at night, all the masts are still up. your title gave a me grin thanks, Gary
