Coming 1/11/11: The New DeVos Children’s Hospital

HDR night photo of the new DeVos Children's hospital taken by Ann Teliczan

The New DeVos Children's Hospital Will be Incredible

What you see here is a night shot of the construction site for the DeVos Children’s Hospital, which is located on the Butterworth campus of Spectrum Health. I had the honor of touring the site earlier this fall and was blown away at the thought and detail that is going into the facility. I’ll write more about the 14-story, 440,000 square foot, $286 million project when it’s closer to completion, but if you want to get the latest, Trillium Hibbein just started a new blog to keep you up to date.

Basically, the concept for the children’s hospital revolves around generating input from the best-of-the-best physicians, architects, and other experts related to healthcare and then creating a hospital based on delivering the ultimate in care for children. No detail was spared, and it’s going to be so much more than the incredibly cool building that is well underway.

The promise is to transform children’s healthcare in West Michigan, and it will.

What’s Up Chris?

Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes at Rothbury 2009

Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes sure does know how to rock. I saw him at Rothbury this year. It was the second time I saw them in concert and the festive summer atmosphere at Rothbury made a great backdrop for the performance.

The Black Crowes’ producer Paul Stacey, who was also the interim guitar replacement for Marc Ford,  uses the guitar effect pedals that my brother Jon Gundry makes at his company ThroBak Electronics, based right here in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
