After a long cold winter, spring is ready to break. Can you feel it?
I took this photo last year up in the Lelanua Peninsula just before spring. I could smell it in the air and hear the birds singing away… all that was missing was bright sun, greenery everywhere and warm wind blowing off Lake Michigan.
Every winter around this time when the days start to get longer, I get VERY antsy for warmer weather. What makes it especially hard to wait, is knowing what a Michigan summer is like, in a word, incredible.
For those of you who have never been to Michigan, I hope you’ll check our state out this summer. For all the news stories of the troubled auto industry in Detroit, there’s a million moments of joy waiting to be taken advantage of here. For those of you who have been here already, you know what I’m talking about, and I hope to see you around when I’m taking my pics for Michigan Sweet Spot.
Winter is not dead, spring will come tomorrow. This landscape is sleeping. Colors hide under the trees. Life is waiting for the start. Just like in an airport : between already no more and not yet.
Sorry, Ann, we’ve checked Arizona and Utah out this summer. But amazing Michigan will be a future destination, Flo and our children are ready to drive through your plains and around your lakes… All these pics are the beginning of our dreams, thank you !

Ann, thank you so much for the work you do bringing the beauty that is Michigan to the eyes of the world.
For too long a time, Michigan was thought of as Detroit, and that was it. Michigan is so much more then that. It’s white sand beaches, and rolling hills, and incredible waterfalls.
How can one discribe the beauty of the sky at night at the beach in Pentwater, the Milky Way in all it’s glory bright against a deep, dark sky?
Or the grandeur of Pictured Rocks? Or the peace of a small roadside farm?
Your pictures are worth a thousand words.
